King County Bar Foundation (KCBF) is the largest single provider of scholarships for minority law students in the state of Washington. In 2006, $125,000 was distributed to University of Washington and Seattle University law schools for this purpose. More than 400 students have benefited from this program since it began in 1970 and more than 50% of these exceptional students are now practicing in King County.

On Tuesday, November 7th, KCBF will honor the Minority Law Student Scholarship recipients at the 2006 Bar Scholar Reception. All current and past scholarships recipients are invited to attend the annual event hosted this year by the law firm of Perkins Coie. The evening provides an opportunity for KCBF trustees and other practicing attorneys to mingle with a number of the minority lawyers who benefited from these scholarships in the past and to meet the current recipients of the scholarships.

This year, KCBF has extended a special invitation to law firm hiring managers, corporate counsel recruiters, and minority bar leaders. KCBF realizes that the Bar Scholar Reception is a great place to introduce hiring professionals and bar associations to a new emerging crop of young professionals in the legal community.

The Minority Law Student Scholarships given annually by KCBF represent one aspect of its three pronged mission to increase the diversity in the profession. The three fold agenda is to: increase the pool of students of color entering law school, provide financial assistance to minority law students, and increase retention of minority lawyers in King County law offices.
