Volunteer Legal Services
VLS provides free direct representation to low-income King County residents on a broad array of civil legal issues including housing, debt, consumer, wills and estate planning, special education, and public benefits.
Volunteer Attorneys for Persons with AIDS/HIV & AIDS Legal Access
VAPWA/ALA provides free, reduced fee, and regular fee legal referrals to individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Lawyers are available to assist clients in most areas of civil law.
Native American Wills Project
This project works with reservation communities to provide estate planning services to individuals who own trust land. Trust land is land in which the United States holds legal title, with the entire beneficial interest held by individual landowners.
Homeless Project
Legal Services for the Homeless provides free advice and assistance with legal problems to individuals who are homeless and currently using shelter services. Several law firms and King County Civil Division Deputy Prosecutors each sponsor a local shelter.
Family Law Self-Help Plus
Self Help Plus assists low or moderate-income King County residents file for uncontested dissolution, child support modifications, and minor parenting plan modifications. Service is provided on a sliding fee scale based on client income.
Family Law Mentor
Family Law Mentor provides free, direct representation to low-income residents in contested dissolution or custody cases where children are at risk.
Housing Justice Project
HJP provides free legal assistance to north King County and Seattle residents facing the loss of housing due to an eviction. The program is located near the ExParte department of King County Courthouse and is open Monday – Friday 8:30 – 10:30 A.M.
Newcomers
Newcomers Resource Project provides community workshops and free legal services on non-immigration civil issues, to newcomers, immigrants, and refugees who reside in King County. Foreign language and ASL interpreters are available. Newcomers partners with Casa Latina to assist workers with wage claims.
Neighborhood Legal Clinics
25 Neighborhood Legal Clinics offer free legal half-hour consultations on a wide range of issues to King County residents, regardless of income. Volunteer attorneys help individuals understand their legal issues and provide information and/or referrals.
All programs provide foreign language and ASL interpreters.
